Things You Don't Know About iPhone

1. How Jonathan Ive designed Apple's iPhone? The chief designer of iPhone is Jonathan Ive and he was the one to give the idea of 'feetless' candy-bar cell phone. Examining some of the leading cell phones he decided to create a conceptually new device.

The idea was to eliminate tiny feet or protrusions on the bottom of the phone meant to make the phone "higher" so that the speaker can be heard. Thus Ive obtained a sleek design and introduced an innovation moving the speaker from the back. This simple solution brings several questions one of which is: would a front speaker be enough to hear the iPhone?

2. How many prospects are ready to buy iPhone? The 4 GB iPhone version is expected to cost around $500, whereas the 8 GB one will be $600. The main question is are the consumers ready to pay such a price? There have been reported several surveys that offer data about the potential buyers of iPhone, some of them seam to be commercial other independent ones. However, the results greatly differ!

Compete, the on-line firm, reports that only 1% of the prospects interested in cutting edge phones are to pay the price for iPhone. At its turn ChangeWave suggested that 67% of target-consumers would not be stopped by the price to get an iPhone.

3. 200 patents for iPhone! iPhone's file management system is covered by about 200 patents belonging to Apple. This assures a safe coverage for specific features too -- from touch-screen functionality to ability to download and play podcasts.

4. A huge revenue for Apple! According to Goldman Sachs, in the first 12 to 18 months there will be sold 14 million units worldwide. These optimistic financial analysis are truly overwhelming!

5. Whom will iPhone follow: iPod or Newton? iPhone can go two ways: follow the steps of iPod and be very successful; or repeat the fate of Apple's Newton and fail. The story of iPod is well known because of its fame. What about Newton? This was an Apple's project for a touchscreen PDA. It was produced between 1993 and 1998 and had no success on the market because of its large size and $1000 price. The touchscreen of iPhone reminds of the Newton's one.

6. Unique touch screen. iPhone will be equipped with a unique touchscreen that will include features unknown to other touchscreen devices. The interface will be about the wheel-scrolling. This makes it possible to spin a simulated list with your finger. The wheel will keep spinning after you lift your finger miming a real wheel. Another notable feature is the "pinching" maneuver. You can expand or shrink objects for viewing by pinching or unpinching your fingers across the screen.

7. Only one physical button. The iPhone housing will be provided with only one physical button. This will be the "Home" button, which will have the function of bringing users back to the main screen.

8. The litigation. The Infogear company (later acquired by Cisco), has applied for trademark registration of various versions of the name iPhone (since 1993). Later Cisco initiated a trial against Apple, but two sides ended up by negotiating the issues.
