IPod Accessories – What To Start With?

If you are one of the iPod addicted persons, tending to know everything about this smart gizmo then you are one of us! And 'we' are the ones to get new experiences with our iPods, not just to commonly use them. Lately, we are into iPod accessories studying!

Currently, you can barely find a single person without an MP3 player, most of them are iPod owners. Almost any of iPod users can tell you, iPod makes one experiment! Lately many experiment trying different accessories for his/her iPod. Of course there are many of those who consider iPod self-sufficient and alluring without any of its accessories. Well, they didn't try the excitement of it yet.

An interesting fact is that market analysts have estimated – an average iPod owner spends as much as 30 % of the original iPod price on additional accessories! This is from $60 to $90.

First problem is that many people tend to buy wrong accessories! This is because not all fancy, shiny and cool designed accessories are good enough. Second problem is that people don't really realize what is the first accessory they should get.

Basic iPod Accessories and Fancy iPod Accessories

Some of the most searched for accessories are: wireless remote kit, car transceiver kit and speaker kit. These actually are not of the primary need though they make life more colorful.

First thing you should remember is that there are two types of iPod accessories:

  • Basic iPod Accessories. These are primary-need iPod gadgets. They are meant to help you with hardships like screen, click wheel, mirrored back scratches; fingertips; messy iPod earphone cables, iPod overheating during charging if in a silicone or leather case; etc.
  • Fancy iPod Accessories. These are all kind of stuff to complete your iPod, not to settle the issues.

Basic iPod Accessories

Today we are going to speak only about the Basic iPod Accessories.

iPod is technically and cosmetically superior to many other digital music player, but still there are some teething issues. Two of them are: weak batteries and easy scratching. These problems may not be a matter of concern unless you intend to trade in your older iPod for a new one. If the weakness of battery can't be checked right away then some cosmetic damages are immediately visualized and they are able to lower the resale value of your iPod.

Besides, even if you don't intend to trade in your iPod, minuscule scratches and marks on your 'precious' (sounds like Lord of The Rings) are somewhat irritating. Well, the fact is that microscopic scratches takes place every time. So relax, beauty is not the main thing about iPod! And again relax the issue can be easily settled.

iPod good-quality cases – before anything else!

If you want your iPod to serve you well then before anything else protect your iPod by taking care of an appropriate housing. The fact is that the most valuable part of your iPod is the inside chip. A good-quality case will protect it from being physically damaged. Thus, before you move further in searching for iPod accessories make sure you equiped your iPod with either a good quality case or a sleeve (handphone sleeves converted to iPod sleeves).

  • Sleeves for iPod.Handphone sleeves are cheap and easily available. However, some complain that the mirrored back of the 3G and 4G iPods are easily scratched even by sleeves.
  • iPod screen and wheel sticky protectors. Here you deal with transparent sticky protectors for iPod's screen and wheel. They are applied directly onto iPod screen and wheel repeating the forms and sizes. The problem with them is that low quality protectors are curling and peeling in the long run. So you must think twice upon buying a screen and wheel protector and our advise is – don't save on it!
  • iPod silicone skin. We actually can't advise to buy one. This is a commonly used iPod case, but in fact it is one of the worst, especially if you run over a cheap one. Cheap silicone skins: 1) easily tear out; 2) pick up lint and dirt; 3) they are difficult to wash and maintain. If you still want a silicon skin for your iPod make sure you get branded products from USA or Japan instead of China.
  • iPod Leather case. This case is also one of the popular ones. Though Apple provides its branded leather case, it is still not the best variant for your iPod as it tears and tends to scratch the mirror back and lacks a covering flap. Get a soft-leather case and make sure to check the stitching.
Note: You need to pull the iPod out of the leather case while it charges as it can cause overheating.
  • Water and shock resistant cases. The demand for such cases is rising as more and more people bring their iPod for hiking, cycling, trekking, fishing and beach trips.
Note: Make sure to buy a water resistant case and not a water proof one. These are two different types. Water resistant cases can protect against splashes and short immersion in water, this means you wouldn't be able to perform swimming or diving with your iPod!

Go for iPod accessories, there are a large range of them out there! Though many of them are attractive and fancy only a few do fulfill the basic need of iPod. What we don't doubt at all is the fact that your iPod will work just in the way you take care of it!
