TV on Your PC

People don't use a technology for its features, they use it for benefits it brings! For some of you it is not a news the fact that IPTV and Internet TV worths the time you spend on learning how to use your PC for enjoying programs.

Some would say that this is nothing else but another time-wasting possibility! And they will be right because it completely sticks you to your PC making it possible to get TV on your computer.

The availability of some popular programs and shows has equally launched the IPTV and Internet TV craze.

By the way, this is a good reason (for many) to get a big LCD monitor (30-inch monitors are just perfect, 23-inch ones will do great too).

IPTV or Internet TV?
Let's get some simple details! There are two way to get TV on your PC: IPTV and Internet TV.

IPTV (Internet Protocol-based TV) is a collection of proprietary TV systems delivered by the mean of IP-based channels. It is supported usually by giants like Microsoft. There are a dozens of IPTV and Internet sites that let you watch TV on your PC. IPTV service can be free or delivered for a certain fee. How do you watch it? Well, you need to get a viewer supplied by the IPTV company (such as Joost, Zattoo, etc).

Unlike IPTV, Internet TV is not a closed network, on the contrary, the content you view is available to the public Internet. Internet TV relies on the technology of viewers such as Microsoft's Windows Media Player and RealNetworks' RealPlayer. What make it less popular than IPTV is that it's slower!

There are a bunch of sites offering Internet TV, among the most known ones are Joost and MyTVPal. The problem with almost all Internet TV sites is that you might need a viewer for most of them. Further more, some viewers are stand-alone applications, while others run within a browser (only with an ActiveX applet). The downside of it is also the fact that this required time to download and install programs with all their applets.

Beside, some sites let you watch a few minutes of TV before crashing your browser. Many would say that installing everything for Internet TV is a 'geek job', because you need to do God-Knows-What to your system to make it work.

On the other hand, it is a matter of doubt that someone would kill half a day either watching TV or trying to figure out how to run those complicated TV viewers, instead of simply turn on the ordinary TV.

Once You Have Chosen IPTV
People say that once your choice stopped on IPTV then it's better to stick with MyTVPal. Nothing special about it but Joost and Zattoo are both still in beta and you need a special invitation for them.

No matter whereon you choice lies, the IPTV services offer a wide selection of shows, scientific channels, music channels, etc. Of course, you'll run over many local channels (like community-based city council meetings), shopping stations, etc. you may use them or ignore as you usually do on cable TV. Usually, you operate your IPTVwith a pull-down menu listing tens of channels, which gives you opportunity to see ads having about ten stations per screen.

Any of IPTV services' viewer is easy to install and use, though its menu isn't transparent. One of the difficulties is that you'd not be able to watch anything while rolling through the listings.

All in all, but still IPTV is something more and more popular in our days. All you have to do is to make an effort and learn about it, then simply enjoy your IPTV time!
