Compact Digital Camera – Which One Of The Billion Is Yours?

Digital cameras are designed for more than capturing and storing photos electronically. They are multi-functional devices which are able to record sound and video. The latest ones are also called compact digital cameras.

Many consider that multi-functional digital cameras tend to lose the quality of functions it performs. Of course these type of digital cameras are not meant for professional use, but the quality of picture and recording will certainly satisfy any average user.

The advantage we (users) share is the large range of models of compact digital cameras available on the market today. Beside various functions they offer different skill levels and styles of photography. Only personal needs of a person can determine the right digital camera for him/her.

It is not a news that digital cameras are classified into several groups. Let's see once again which are these groups and narrow the segment of digital cameras to look for:

  1. Video Cameras – These are full motion video cameras. They are professional or semiprofessional devices provided with multiple, per color image sensors. In other words with a good resolution. So called camcorders are featured with sound and LCD for playback. They can also be easily attached to computers for video conferencing.
  2. Subcompact Camera – The subcompact camera are the thinest of the compact digital cameras. They can lightweight and fit easily into briefcase or even purse. This makes them the most portable of all the cameras. So, they are mainly created for catching interesting moments during trips rather then to make professional, high-resolution pictures.

A serious drawback is that they are usually more expensive than compact digital cameras. Besides they have less manual controls. Also tinny sizes are not already welcomed they are difficult to use.

  3. DSLR's – Digital single-lens reflex cameras are used for specialized photography by many professionals. One of the important feature is that the lens is interchangeable on this camera. Unlike, compact digital cameras the image sensors on DSLR cameras are larger. This results in less overall noise and higher sensitivity to poor or dim light. Another advantage is that the auto focus is faster and they are on instantly. The video data are saved in JPEG and raw formats at the same time.
  4. Some disadvantages of this type of cameras are their balkier size and heavier weight. Besides they do not record movies and are more expensive (it can be considered a disadvantage, though sometimes price is the index of quality).

  5. Standard Digital Cameras – These are also called digicams. They are easy to operate as they are less pretentious to some conditions as professional cameras usually are. Though it focuses with specified motion picture potential, it is able to focus multiple depth objects at the same time. It saves the pictures in JPEG format.
  6. Experts find standard digital cameras somewhat less efficient when it is about 'deep' photos, meaning that pictures look artificial and flat. So they are inclined to recommend it for landscape and casual use.

Compact digital cameras connect to a PC in order to transfer data. There are at least four ways to do this:

  • direct connection
  • using PC's serial port
  • via USB port
  • wireless connection (using Bluetooth or FireWire features)

The last one – connection via Bluetooth is widely used and is one of the most popular methods today. This up-to-date technology offers the possibility to create a WPAN (wireless personal area network) and exchange information between a digital camera and computers as well as among other devices.

Using a compact digital camera is not a big deal! Choosing one is the real challenge! It's up to you and you interests which one of the billion cameras is yours.
